Classical Civilisation is one of the most intellectually demanding A-Levels because it refuses to fit into a single box. Students must possess the source analysis skills of a historian, the visual literacy of an art critic, and the textual sensitivity of an English Literature student.
The sheer variety of evidence, from the architecture of the Parthenon to the hexameter of Homer, means that many students struggle to adapt their writing style to the different assessment objectives required for literature versus material culture.
Our tuition focuses on integrated analysis.
We teach students how to synthesise these different forms of evidence, ensuring that they can weave a coin, a poem, and a statue into a single coherent argument that answers the question with nuance and depth.

The vast majority of students sit the OCR specification, which offers a wide range of optional modules.
We match students with tutors who are experts in their specific combination of topics.
The World of the Hero (OCR): This compulsory component is the backbone of the course. We guide students through the complex comparative analysis required between the Greek epics (Iliad or Odyssey) and Virgil’s Aeneid, ensuring that they can discuss the distinct cultural values of "Kleos" and "Pietas" with precision.
Culture and the Arts (OCR): Whether you are studying Imperial Image or Greek Art, we focus on the specific visual analysis skills required. We teach students how to deconstruct iconography and propaganda so that they can explain the political message behind the art, not just describe what it looks like.
Beliefs and Ideas (OCR): Topics like Democracy and the Athenians or Love and Relationships require a deep understanding of social context. We help students navigate the philosophical and historical sources, ensuring that they avoid imposing modern values on ancient societies.
WJEC/Eduqas: We specialise in the specific requirements of the Component 1 Period Study and the Component 2 Culture and Arts papers, ensuring that students meet the distinct assessment criteria for the Welsh board.

"The independent school fee increases due to the new VAT rules meant that had to change our daughter's school for her final year. We put some of the savings towards A-Level tuition for her to ensure she gets the attention she needs, and now she's scoring even better than she was at her old school!"
