Physics Personal Statement

Every undergraduate application requires the writing of a personal statement. This is your opportunity to display your subject knowledge and passion, as well as a bit of your life beyond the classroom.

We specialise in mentoring students through the Physics personal statement process. Our comprehensive Personal Statement Package includes two one-hour video sessions and two detailed offline reviews.

For those closer to the deadline, we offer individual one-hour video consultations or single offline reviews. Every session is led by a tutor who studied Physics at a top-tier university, ensuring you receive first-hand expertise on what a successful application looks like.

ESAT

If you're applying to study Physics at Oxford or Imperial, you will have to sit the ESAT. This test plays a crucial role in offer decisions, and it is used to shortlist candidates for the interview stage. Our experienced tutors can help you excel.

Practice papers for the ESAT are available below, alongside past papers from the PAT and NSAA which remain great resources for practice.

We recommend that students work through these papers independently under timed conditions, mark them, and then meet with their tutor to go through the most challenging questions.

To allow the time to cover more of the completed ESAT paper in one sitting, we offer ESAT tuition in 90-minute sessions.

Essay Competitions, Research Projects, and Academic Mentoring

With university applications more competitive than ever, it's never been more important to stand out.

Essay competitions and research projects are great ways to display your passion for your chosen subject and learn more about a topic that excites you. What's more, it gives you something interesting to talk about in your personal statement and at interview, and prepares you for the sort of work that is undertaken at Oxbridge and other top universities.

Our expert tutors can help you identify a project or competition that is aligned with your goals, and then support you as you complete it, helping you to excel.

If you're Year 11 or below, and you have Oxbridge in your sights, but it's too early to start preparing your personal statement or practising admissions tests, you may benefit from academic mentoring. You will meet with a tutor every couple of weeks, and discuss readings, ideas, and current events with the aim of broadening your subject knowledge and deepening your passion before you make your university application. It's a great way to stay at the top of your class, and will give you the confidence you need when it's time to apply.

"We contacted Avalon to help with our daughter's Oxford application. They created a year-long plan for her reading, work experience, personal statement, LNAT and interview, and paired her with a tutor actually studying Law at Oxford themselves. Thanks to their help, she received an offer, and will begin her Law studies at Oxford in the autumn. Thank you!"
