The IB Language B course is designed for students who already have a foundation in a language and want to reach high-level fluency. The course focuses on using language in a variety of contexts, from social media and news reports to literature and professional environments, while exploring the cultures where the language is spoken.
At Avalon Education, our language tutors help you move beyond simple grammar drills. We teach you the nuance and cultural context needed to achieve a Grade 7, helping you communicate with the confidence of a native speaker.
We focus on improving your spontaneous speaking and your ability to write in different formats, such as letters, blogs, or reports. Our tutors work with you to expand your vocabulary and refine your understanding of complex sentence structures so that your work sounds natural and academic.
Our sessions are tailored to the specific language you are studying and the themes chosen by your school. We provide the exam techniques and conversational practice needed to ensure you are fully prepared for each component of the IB assessment.

The Individual Oral (IO): This is a conversation with your teacher based on a visual stimulus (at SL) or a literary extract (at HL). We help you practice describing images or texts effectively and build the confidence to handle the follow-up discussion fluently.
Paper 1 (Writing): You will be asked to produce a piece of writing in a specific format based on a choice of prompts. We help you master the different text types, such as speeches, reviews, or articles, and ensure your grammar and register are correct.
Paper 2 (Listening and Reading): This exam tests your ability to understand spoken and written language from various sources. We use authentic materials and past papers to sharpen your comprehension skills and teach you how to pick out key information under exam conditions.
Ongoing Tuition
If you are happy, this will then evolve into regular tuition, overseen by our Director who will create the strategy and provide frequent updates.
