Investigate the biological, cognitive, and sociocultural factors that influence human behaviour and mental processes.

£105/hour

The IB Psychology course provides a scientific approach to understanding how and why people act the way they do. You will examine major research studies and theories, exploring the complex interplay between our physical bodies, our thought processes, and the society around us.

At Avalon Education, our tutors help you move beyond simple descriptions of experiments. Our support focuses on the critical evaluation of research methods and ethics, which is essential for achieving a Grade 7.

Our approach involves teaching you how to structure scientific essays that effectively balance theory and empirical evidence. Tutors guide you through the process of evaluating the strengths and limitations of psychology studies, ensuring your arguments are rigorous and balanced.

Because the course requires a deep understanding of specific research, our sessions are tailored to help you master the key studies chosen by your school. We provide the exam techniques needed for both short answer and extended response questions, ensuring you are fully prepared for each component of the IB assessment.

Paper 1: This exam covers the core levels of analysis—biological, cognitive, and sociocultural. We help you master both the short answer questions and the extended response essays.

Paper 2: This paper focuses on optional themes such as abnormal psychology, developmental psychology, or health psychology. We teach you how to apply psychological theories to these specialised areas of study.

Paper 3 (HL only): This exam focuses on research methodology and the qualitative and quantitative approaches used in psychology. We help you develop the skills to analyse unseen research descriptions and evaluate their design.

Internal Assessment (IA): Both SL and HL students complete a report on an experimental study that they have designed and conducted. Our tutors act as mentors to help you plan your experiment, analyse the data, and write a formal scientific report.
