The IB Film course allows students to examine the power of the moving image from both a critical and a creative perspective. You will analyse films from different cultures and eras while learning the technical skills needed to produce your own cinematic work.
At Avalon Education, our tutors help you move beyond being a spectator. Our support focuses on the high level analysis and technical proficiency required for a Grade 7.
We focus on teaching you how to deconstruct the specific elements of film language, such as cinematography, editing, and sound design. Tutors guide you through the development of your own film projects, ensuring that your practical work is always informed by rigorous theory.
Because the course is primarily assessed through a portfolio, our sessions are tailored to help you manage multiple creative projects. We provide the frameworks needed for both written analysis and video production, ensuring you are fully prepared for each component of the IB assessment.

Textual Analysis: You will produce a written analysis of a specific film extract. We help you identify and explain how the director uses cinematic techniques to create meaning for the audience.
Comparative Study: This component involves a video essay where you compare two films from different cultures. We help you research your chosen films and script an insightful, academic commentary.
Film Portfolio: You will create a portfolio of short films to demonstrate your skills in various roles, such as directing or editing. We help you refine your technical craft and document your creative development.
Collaborative Film Project (HL only): HL students work as part of a team to produce a complete short film. Our tutors act as mentors to help you manage the production process and write an evaluative report on the collaboration.
Ongoing Tuition
