The IB Theatre course is a multifaceted study that encourages students to experience theatre as creators, performers, and critics. You will look at different theatrical styles and cultures, learning how to take a script or an idea and turn it into a live performance.
At Avalon Education, our tutors help you move beyond basic acting. Our support focuses on the theoretical depth and directorial vision needed for a Grade 7.
We focus on helping you understand the relationship between performance theory and practice. Tutors guide you through the analysis of world theatre traditions and the development of your own staging ideas, ensuring your work is always backed by rigorous research.
Because the course is assessed through a series of portfolios and presentations, our sessions are tailored to help you articulate your creative process. We provide the frameworks needed for both written reflections and practical demonstrations, ensuring you are fully prepared for each component of the IB assessment.

Director’s Notebook: You will choose a published play and develop a complete directorial vision for its staging. We help you research the play’s context and document your staging ideas in a professional notebook.
World Theatre Report: This component involves researching a specific theatre tradition and applying its techniques to a performance. We help you script a presentation that explains your findings and your practical discoveries.
Collaborative Project: You will work in a group to create and perform an original piece of theatre. Our tutors help you manage the creative process and write a report on the development of the work.
Solo Theatre Piece (HL only): HL students research a theatre theorist and create a solo performance based on their ideas. We help you select a theorist and develop a performance that demonstrates a deep understanding of their principles.
Ongoing Tuition
If you are happy, this will then evolve into regular tuition, overseen by our Director who will create the strategy and provide frequent updates.
