A-Level Latin marks the transition from learning the rules to applying them to real, unadapted ancient texts. The safety net of GCSE, where vocabulary lists are limited and sentence structures are predictable, is gone.
Students must now navigate complex syntax and translate the authentic voice of Cicero or Ovid, while simultaneously acting as literary critics for the verse and prose set texts.

We teach students to deconstruct long, periodic sentences logically, ensuring they can identify the main verb and navigate the nested clauses without losing the thread of the meaning.

While OCR is the dominant board, the requirement to master both language and literature is universal.

OCR: We provide a structured approach to the four distinct papers. We drill the specific vocabulary lists for the language papers and ensure deep textual knowledge for the Prose and Verse Literature components.
Eduqas: We specialise in the "Roman Civilisation" component alongside the language work. We ensure students can link their linguistic skills to a broader understanding of Roman culture and history.
Literature Analysis: Whether studying Tacitus, Cicero, or Virgil, we focus on the "10-mark" style analysis questions. We teach students how to identify rhetorical devices and explain their effect technically to hit the top assessment bands.
